Introduction to the General Education College

The General Education College was established in January 2024 and consists of three departments: the Department of Liberal Studies, the Department of Public Foundation, and the Department of Shuyuan. The Department of Liberal Studies is responsible for teaching courses in Liberal StudiesAesthetic EducationChinese, and Shuyuan Workshops. The Department of Public Foundation is responsible for teaching English, Advanced Mathematics, Physical Education, and Military Theory. The Department of Shuyuan is responsible for the coordinated management of all the Shuyuns on the campus, the construction of workshops, and the development of large-scale activities. With the fundamental task of fostering character and civic virtue, the college adheres to the core training concepts of being good at speaking and running, "being skilled at shooting and writing, being knowledgeable and reasonable, and being dedicated and happy. The college aims to build a talent training system that closely integrates knowledge learning and personality cultivation, innovation ability and social practice, and all-round development and personality growth. Through the optimization and reform of the teaching and curriculum system, the continuous construction of the faculty, and the design and polishing of interdisciplinary courses, the College breaks down the barriers of traditional disciplines to cultivate the comprehensive quality and innovation ability of the students, foster interdisciplinary talents who can adapt to future social life.

The Department of Public Foundation serves as the cornerstone of the college, focusing on basic teaching and adhering strictly to national standards. Through ideological guidance and activity-driven approaches, it fosters a collaborative force in education. the Department of Liberal Studies emphasizes students personalized learning development paths and diverse learning experiences, with the five abilities of aesthetic judgment, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and initiative as the core objectives of talent cultivation. These are clearly defined in the credit requirements of various professional talent cultivation programs. Currently, there are four major curriculum modules: Public Arts and Aesthetic Experience, Humanistic Spirit and Moral Values, Technological Development and Social Changes, and Communication, Expression, and Action Practice. By integrating professional knowledge and thinking orientations, interdisciplinary knowledge application orientations, and contemporary social trends, specific courses with foundational, diverse, and integrated characteristics are planned. The Department of Liberal Studies pays attention to the extension of course depth and breadth and the combination of theory and practice. Through diverse and rich general education courses, it provides students with comprehensive knowledge and skills training, and breaks down disciplinary boundaries to achieve integration of general and specialized education. Furthermore, it expands teaching practice fields through extracurricular general education practices such as activities conducted at the Academy, workshop teaching, and learning communities, enhancing students learning experiences, enriching dimensions of learning outcome evaluation, and achieving scenario-based education.

The college has a dedicated team of teachers with high academic qualifications, strong teaching skills, and a combination of practical and scientific research abilities. The faculty is structured with a total of 66 teachers and staff members, including 1 professor, 16 associate professors, 20 lecturers, and 13 teaching assistants. Among them, 3 teachers hold doctoral degrees, and 42 have masters degrees. Additionally, there are 4 visiting scholars, including Mr. Song Weiduo, Mr. Zheng Chaoqun, and Mr. Liu Yingdan, who have visited the University of Sunderland (UK). All full-time teachers have strong professional backgrounds, with many having previously taught at well-known universities such as Wuhan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of London, and The University of Sydney. The college prioritizes teaching reform and scientific research, and the teachers have undertaken more than 20 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level. They have also overseen 2 provincial gold courses and have published 52 academic papers, including 13 SCI papers, 7 EI papers, and 7 papers in 985 and 211 university journals. Furthermore, they have published one monograph, one textbook on College Physical Education Tutorial and Calculus in 985 University Press, 15 utility model patents, 2 software works, 1 horizontal project, and more than 10 provincial scientific research projects. The teachers have both solid teaching skills and strong scientific research abilities and have received numerous awards in the Fujian Provincial Universities Young Teachers Teaching Competition and the Teaching Star Competition of the Foreign Research Institute. They have also guided students to win awards in provincial and national college students innovation and entrepreneurship programs, provincial and national mathematics competitions, foreign language competitions, provincial sports competitions, and college sports games.

The General Education College is committed to educating students based on the universitys goal of developing high-level applied talents. The college focuses on the cultivation program of each major, aiming to produce high-quality comprehensive talents. It emphasizes the quality and effectiveness of teaching, continuously reforms teaching methods, innovates curriculum design, and aligns basic and liberal studies courses with the universitys talent cultivation mode. By offering diverse courses and practical activities, the college embodies a student-oriented educational approach and creates an environment where the college enlightens the future and the academy grows warmly. This approach helps improve students overall quality to achieve adult education.
