The School of Cross-Border E-Commerce is a new type of secondary college composed of subject groups in response to Fujian Province's digital economy and cultural and tourism economy strategies. It is established to meet the industry’s needs and is centered around the industrial chain. Leveraging the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the college is rooted in and provides support for the export-oriented regional economy. In line with the talent needs of import and export trade, the college has established three majors: Business English, Cross-border E-commerce, and Marketing.
Business English Major
The Business English program evolved from the English major and has a long-standing history with remarkable achievements. In recent years, the major has adopted the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach with the goal of cultivating cross- border e-commerce talents who are proficient in English and skilled at cross-cultural communication. By embracing innovative talent cultivation models, such as infusing the classroom with real-life business cases, embarking on joint school-enterprise projects, welcoming industry gurus into the classroom, sending teachers on corporate immersion trips, and founding co-built elite classes for cross-border e-commerce, it immerses students in real-world language and business practice scenarios. Using language as the cornerstone and capitalizing on the edge of "a step ahead" workplace exposure, it has developed a unique talent cultivation model featuring "synergistic school-enterprise cooperation, experiential learning, and the pursuit of excellence". Since its establishment, the major has nurtured many outstanding talents, including Liang Linxin, a doctoral supervisor; Xu Zhennan, the general manager of Xiamen Hexin Electronics Co., Ltd.; Huang Wei, the chairman of Fujian Weiyuan Mining Co., Ltd.; Huang Kexin, who ranked among the top three in the Han Suyin International Translation Contest; and Gao Yue, who was admitted to the University of Melbourne in Australia.
Marketing Major
The Marketing program is tailored to Fujian Province's strategic pillar industries, including the cultural and tourism industries, modern food, and information technology. Its core objective is to nurture high-caliber talents. These individuals will have a thorough understanding of the fundamental theories and practical application skills in marketing. Graduates from this program will be well - equipped to take on diverse roles in various sectors. In technology firms, cultural and tourism enterprises, government agencies, and cross-border e-commerce companies, they can conduct in-depth market research, perform sophisticated marketing data analysis, delve into consumer behavior, manage effective marketing communication, handle brand management with finesse, execute marketing strategies, and operate media platforms proficiently. In recent years, the major has achieved fruitful results in professional construction. There are 17 scientific research achievements, including four provincial-level projects, three municipal-level projects, and nine research papers (two SSCI papers and two papers published in core domestic journals). One provincial-level scientific research base has been approved. There are 12 teaching reform achievements, including three provincial teaching reform projects, one municipal project, five papers, and one provincial-level “golden course”.
Cross-border E-commerce Major
The Cross - border E-commerce program is a new major established by integrating educational advantages, against the backdrop of the establishment of the Cross-border E-commerce Experimental Zone in Fuzhou and the subsequent development of cross-border industrial parks in other counties and cities. The major focuses on a clear industrial chain and aims to cultivate innovative and applied talents with outstanding practical abilities and Internet thinking. It is characterized by a scenario-based education model and continuously innovates new classrooms that transcend physical environment limitations. For example, during the China (Fuzhou) Cross-border E-commerce Fair on March 18th every year, courses such as exhibition planning, online marketing, cross-border e-commerce market planning, and cross-border e-commerce live-streaming operation and promotion are offered at the exhibition site, creating a 360-degree holographic immersive new classroom for students.
Currently, the three majors in the Cross-border E-commerce College are like the three legs of a tripod, each with its own characteristics and complementing each other, jointly assuming the heavy responsibility of cultivating regional import and export talents. There are more than 1,400 full-time students and 63 teachers in the three majors, with more than half of them being “dual-competency teachers”.
The college sits on a green hill at whose foot stands the first modern government-run higher education institution in China, the Foochow Shipbuilding Academy. It has cultivated outstanding talents such as Yan Fu and Zhan Tianyou, who were proficient in foreign languages, business, and humanities. The Foochow Shipbuilding Academy’s model of cultivating export-oriented and applied talents, which emphasizes foreign language acquisition and combines factory-based training with school-based learning, is most in line with our college's education model. Therefore, over an extended period, our college has revered the Foochow Shipbuilding Academy as a hallowed ground for patriotism and moral edification. A significant number of research projects have been systematically launched to comprehensively examine the manifestations, impacts, and cultivation mechanisms of patriotism and moral education within the context of this academy.
In addition, the teachers and students at our college have long been committed to the cause of rural revitalization. They have carried out a summer social practice activity themed "Soap Blessings to Nanyan" for six consecutive years, spreading the green concept and promoting rural prosperity. Our cultural and tourism activities in the village have also been reported by CCTV.
