Established on December 11, 2024, the College of Arts was formed through the merger of the former College of Design and the College of Art and Childhood Education. It offers six undergraduate programs: Fine Arts, Digital Media Arts, Musicology, Dance Studies, Applied Psychology, and Early Childhood Education. The college comprises academic and administrative units including the Academic Committee, the Institute of Art Studies, the Art Practice Teaching and Service Center, the Art Discipline Competition Studio, and the Professor Weng Bingfeng Studio.
The college employs 118 faculty and staff members, including 101 full-time instructors. Among them, 26 hold senior academic titles, 98% possess master’s degrees or higher, and 80% are dual-qualified professionals with both academic and industry expertise. The faculty structure is well-balanced in terms of educational background, age, and professional rank.
The college has established over 100 specialized training labs, professional exhibition halls, music halls, and dance rehearsal studios. It has established long-term partnerships with over 100 external institutions, including schools, media agencies, theaters, performance groups, and art practice bases. The Fujian Industrial Design Association, Fujian Animation & Game Industry Association, Fujian Packaging Federation, Fujian Musicians Association, Fujian Dancers Association, Fujian Psychological Society, and Fujian Psychological Aid Association serve as the college’s teaching guidance units.
Leveraging disciplinary strengths, the college implements a “Specialty + AI Technology” strategy to drive innovation in addressing global technological, economic, and societal challenges. Through close alignment with local industries, it emphasizes practical education to cultivate application-oriented professionals with global vision, innovative capabilities, and strong responsiveness to Fujian’s economic development needs. The college is dedicated to advancing societal well-being and supporting national strategic initiatives.
Notably, the Fine Arts program was recognized as a Fujian Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program in 2022. The college has achieved significant milestones, including 4 provincial teaching reforms, 8 virtual simulation projects, 3 award-winning ideological education courses, and 2 outstanding undergraduate planning textbooks. The college has also been approved for 2 key research bases for social sciences in Fuzhou, 1 Fujian Provincial Social Science Excellence Award, 6 general provincial social science projects, 1 Taiwan compatriot special project, and 2 provincial social science publication funds. Faculty members have published 73 high-impact research papers and authored 11 academic monographs and 5 textbooks. Their works have garnered 28 national awards in art exhibitions and music/dance competitions. At the provincial level, 92 works have received awards in various competitions. Student teams have excelled in competitions such as the “Internet+” Innovation Contest, winning 1 national bronze medal, 2 provincial gold medals, 4 provincial silver medals, and 1 provincial bronze medal. In the “The Challenge Cup”, they have secured 3 provincial silver medals and 2 provincial bronze medals. Additionally, students have won first place in the Fujian College Student Career Planning Competition. Overall, students have received a total of 287 awards at national and provincial levels, with 18 national awards and 279 provincial awards.
